Flashes of Speculation is closed to submissions at this time. Interest has waned to the point of non-existence, both in terms of submissions and readership. Until such time that there is fresh interest or from someone who would like to pick up the project, FoS will remain closed. I have several big projects I’m working [...]
The wonderful folks over at WordPress will be releasing the final version of WordPress 2.3 in about three weeks. I’m going to start work on a fresh theme for Flashes of Speculation now that will be based on the popular Sandbox theme. The combination of Sandbox and WordPress 2.3 will give Flashes of Speculation more [...]
Is there still enough interest in Flashes of Speculation for me to continue accepting submissions? Rod seems to be the only writer submitting stuff with any consistency, and the stats and comments indicate that very few people come to read. I’d appreciate thoughts from anyone who still comes here.
Flashes of Speculation has just undergone a transformation! I’ve spent some time over the past couple of days reorganizing, restructuring, and rebuilding to give the site what is, I believe, a unique design and more attractive layout. It will likely yet need some additional tweaking as bugs and glitches are discovered so please let me [...]

Just thought I’d throw that out there as an option. It can also be used for offering critiques of the writing – but only if the authors themselves [...]

I’ve been a little backlogged the last few weeks – real life keeps getting in the way of things, so Flashes of Speculation keeps getting pushed further down my priority list (plus the submissions haven’t exactly been rolling in lately). I promise I’ll see [...]
The 100 Voices in the Night flash fiction anthology project is recruiting writers to contribute their work to the book. Head over to my blog and read the announcement in full, if you haven’t done so already.
We have received many excellent submissions since Flashes of Speculation went live a few weeks ago. A handful of horror stories, however, have really toed the line of actually being speculative fiction and so have only just barely made it through. As a result the submission guidelines for horror stories have been revised slightly, specifically:
For [...]
I don’t plan to do ads or gaudy banners on Flashes of Speculation, but when the cause is helping a fellow writer promote their first book, it seems worthwhile to help spread the word where possible. You can find out more from Jason Sizemore’s site or by clicking on the banner.
And speaking of writers, what [...]
It’s been a quiet couple of days. Things started off really well with Flashes’ first week – a number of submissions and plenty of comments to go around. (I blame the quiet of the last couple of days on the relative newness of this site). Flashes of Speculation is still looking for lots of new [...]
