Flashes of Speculation

Clark - Randall Pretzer

Her name was Angela. She was beautiful in every respect.

Her name was Angela. She was beautiful in every respect. A sweet, caring and loving person. She would never hurt anyone. She was getting married to a banker, a man named Eddie Michael whom I saw with her. I saw them kissing once in a park. She didn’t love him but he loved her. He was a sweet man, but there was nothing there. Sadly, it sometimes just doesn’t happen between two people even if they are both kind.

“You don’t really love that guy,” I said. They both stopped and looked up at me.

“I do too,” she said.

“No, you don’t,” I said. Eddie got up from the bench and walked over to me. I didn’t know what else to say.

“This is none of your business. Now beat it.” He pushed me but I didn’t budge an inch. He was perplexed. I stood still. I understood his anger. I was only trying to help them both.

“You are making a mistake, my dear,” I said to her, overlooking Eddie.

“I am going to give you five seconds to leave or I am taking you down,” he raised up his fists. I didn’t budge. I didn’t want any trouble.

“It will only help both of you in the end.”

He threw a punch at my face; I didn’t even feel it. He grabbed his hand and screamed in pain. Eddie kicked me between my legs and the pain caused him to fall on the ground. She ran up to him and hugged him. She looked up at me.

“Why are you doing this? Can’t you see you have hurt him?” She was crying.

“I didn’t do anything to him but here let me help.” I knelt down and grabbed his hand and foot. He felt no pain in a few seconds. He felt his hand and foot. Eddie looked at me astonished, and she got up slowly and backed away a bit in fear.

“Who are you?” she said.

“Just a friend of humanity. I am sorry for the trouble.”

I was about to walk away but then she came up to me. Eddie slowly got up to his feet.

“How do you know if I love someone or not?”

“Because I can see right through you.”

She turned to Eddie. Eddie went up to kiss her but she pulled away.

“No, Eddie. I am sorry. I don’t love you.” She started to cry again.

“What do you mean? Of course you love me. Why are you listening to this guy? He is no one.” He went up to her again and put his hands on her shoulders. Angela removed his hands gently and backed away further away closer to me.

“I am sorry, Eddie.”

Eddie walked away. Angela turned to me once more.

“Thank you. You stopped me from making the biggest mistake in my life.” She came up and hugged me. I hugged her back and let go.

“You’re welcome but, really, you did the work.” I smiled.

“What is your name?” She let go of me.

“Just call me Clark.” I fixed my glasses.

“Nice to meet you, Clark. I am Angela.” She put out her hand. I took it and we shook gently.

“Nice to meet you Angela.” I let go of her hand.

“Well, want to go for a walk?”

She put out her hand again.

“All right.” I took her hand.
